Welcome to the Rookery on St. Simons Island. This well appointed home offers a unique way to visit the island, sitting within the confines of Cannon’s Point Nature Preserve, one of the most historic and storied areas in the Golden Isles.
This private guesthouse is approximately 500 feet from the owner’s home, but offers true privacy as it is situated between oaks and other maritime flora. Because of the location within the nature preserve, this house is currently only rentable Thursday-Sunday. Outside of the home and preserve, you will find the property close to two public boat ramps, other trails and nature areas on the north-end of St. Simons, and approximately 20 minutes from the island’s beaches.
The curator of the preserve, the Saint Simons Land Trust, describes the 644 acre preserve as being:
“some of the last intact maritime forest on St. Simons Island and is rich in cultural and natural history. The peninsula has more than six miles of salt marsh, tidal creek and river shoreline that provide habitat for wildlife such as oysters, birds, fish, and manatee. Shell middens dating back to 2500 BCE are on the site, as are the remains of the large plantation home and slave quarters owned by John Couper in the 1800s.”
