The nearby South Toe River is a known trout hotspot in the Carolinas. Originating from Mount Mitchell and Pisgah National Forest. The river hosts thriving wild rainbow, brook, and brown trout populations, thanks to its cool, pure waters sourced from the Right Prong and Left Prong streams’ confluence. The upper sections adhere to Wild Regulations, challenging access but rewarding skilled anglers with wild trout fishing. The stretch above Black Mountain Campground to Pisgah Game Land Border is designated “catch and release – artificial lures/flies only,” offering a pristine environment for catch-and-release enthusiasts. Accessible by vehicle, the lower South Toe River provides stocked fishing and wade-friendly areas. Teeming with various insect hatches, it’s a haven for dry fly and nymph fishing.
