Fly Fishing Streams and Access Points:

Fairplay boasts an abundance of pristine fly fishing streams, notably the South Platte River and its tributaries. Anglers frequent renowned sections like the Dream Stream, renowned for its trophy-sized trout. Convenient entry to these coveted spots is provided by access points such as the Tomahawk State Wildlife Area and Charlie Meyers State Wildlife Area.

North Fork Fork of the South Platte River:

Despite erratic water flows and sparse bug life, certain sections near Bailey yield 8″ to 14″ fish. The lower South Platte River below Foxton Road offers a relaxed fishing experience, ideal for beginners or those seeking tranquility.

Wellington Lake:

This tranquil alpine lake, a 40-minute drive from Fairplay, offers a privately owned 167-acre trophy fishery stocked with various trout species. Wellington Lake provides catch-and-release fishing opportunities for both novice and seasoned anglers, with fishing included in camping fees.

Upper Deer Creek and Craig Creek:

Nearby creeks offer excellent trout fishing experiences. Upper Deer Creek, located northwest of Bailey, is known for sizable Brook and Brown Trout. Craig Creek, situated in the Lost Creek Wilderness, offers serene fishing amid picturesque surroundings.

Mountain Biking:

Boreas Pass Road: Offering a scenic gravel ride suitable for riders of all levels, Boreas Pass Road provides panoramic vistas of the Mosquito Range and beyond. Distance: Approximately 20 miles round trip.

  • Colorado Trail – Kenosha Pass Section: Part of the iconic Colorado Trail, the Kenosha Pass Section features thrilling singletrack sections with sweeping views of the surrounding peaks. Distance: Varies depending on the route chosen, typically ranging from 5 to 15 miles one way.
  • Georgia Pass Loop: A challenging ride featuring technical descents and lung-busting climbs, the Georgia Pass Loop offers a thrilling adventure for experienced mountain bikers. Distance: Approximately 20 miles round trip.
  • South Park City Loop: This intermediate-level loop trail explores the scenic countryside surrounding Fairplay, offering a mix of dirt roads and singletrack trails with moderate elevation gain. Distance: Approximately 10 miles round trip.
